...and dedicate half of my FPGA resources to a CPU core only, which would also
requires high-latency and complicated bus bridges for clock domain transfer
because OpenRISC only runs at ~40MHz ?
Sorry to say, but despite its good software support and documentation,
OpenRISC makes a perfect example for people who say that FPGA soft processors
are slow, expensive and power-inefficient.
If really-high-speed DSP is needed, I think the current way to go is using a
dedicated core, unless someone develops a good soft-CPU with DSP instructions.
